Doug Wenners

Chief Executive Officer, Optum at Home

Doug Wenners

Doug Wenners serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Optum at Home and is the co-founder and former CEO of Prospero Health, a healthcare company providing home-based medical care. Prospero was launched in June of 2019 in three Northeast states with 1,700 patients. Under Doug’s leadership, the provider organization grew to 26 states and nearly 20,000 patients across the nation, in just two years.

Prior to his work at Prospero, Doug served as the acting Chief Executive Officer of Privia Health, a physician-focused organization offering first-rate patient experience to help manage and improve the health of the communities served. Doug also has vast experience as a payer executive, having served 16 years on the Anthem executive leadership team, holding a variety of positions, including President of Anthem’s East Region and Senior Vice President of the national provider network.

Doug began his career as an attorney at Wiggin & Nourie, P.A., where he specialized in commercial litigation and health care compliance and regulation.  He received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston College, his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School, and a Master of Science from The Dartmouth Institute at Dartmouth College. Doug credits his professional success, especially that of building Prospero Health, to his father, Vin, a hardworking and committed family man for over 50 years, who took Doug out for jelly donuts and orange juice after early morning hockey games. Vin’s affliction with a serious illness shaped Doug’s perspective that even great quality health care is organized around systems, instead of the needs of patients and their families.

Doug is a resident of Rye Beach, New Hampshire. He and his wife, Eleni, also live part-time in Boston and have three daughters, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Eleanor.
